Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between homologación and equivalencia?

Homologación recognises your foreign degree as equivalent to a specific Spanish degree (e.g. Grado en Medicina). Equivalencia recognises your academic level (e.g. Master's level) without linking it to a specific title. For regulated professions (medicine, engineering, nursing) you need homologación. For other purposes, equivalencia may be sufficient.

How long does degree homologación take in Spain?

The homologación process through the Ministry of Education typically takes 6 to 18 months, depending on the degree and current workload. Some regulated professions (medicine, architecture) may require additional exams. We advise on realistic timelines and what you can do while waiting.

Do I need to homologate my degree to work in Spain?

It depends on your field. For regulated professions (healthcare, education, engineering, law) homologación is mandatory. For unregulated sectors (IT, marketing, consulting) it is generally not required, though equivalencia can help with employers and public administration processes.

What documents do I need?

Basic documents: original degree certificate, academic transcript with grades and hours, passport, application form, fee payment receipt. All documents must be apostilled and, if not in Spanish, translated by a sworn translator. We prepare your personalised checklist in consultation.
